Day 1: Louise, my Guide Dogs UK supervisor, arrives at midday with Tarka. They got through the front door and straight to the back garden to let Tarka do her “business” as she’s been through a long journey. Louise handed me the papers and we go through some of them. Tarka inspects her new home, runs around the garden, tires herself out and curls up in a corner.
In the afternoon, I took Tarka with me to the bus stop to meet up with my son and he was thrilled to see the new puppy. Earlier I took some photos to email them to hubby as he was at work.
Meanwhile Nushy our cat wasn’t too happy when she saw the puppy. She spent the rest of the day upstairs. Only came down for her dinner when Tarka was in her kennel napping.
Late evening, we’ve done our first bonding and gone through the toilet training routine. Bedtime I dreaded but as expected and been warned by people, the moment I put Tarka to bed inside her crate/indoor kennel, she started crying. During the night, I could hear her whining and crying but have to ignore it. Tough love is the order of the day. I feel like Cruella de Vil / Cinderella’s stepmother though.
