TODAY'S TIDBIT: “Because I love your commands more than gold, more than pure gold…” – Psalm 119:127
I found this funny entry in Ripley’s Believe It or Not: “Driven by love for the Berlin Wall, Eija-Riitta Berliner-Mauer of Sweden married it in 1979 and took its name as her surname.”
We may think it’s crazy that this woman loved the Berlin Wall so much that she married it. We may not do something so outlandish but are we any different in our love for material things?
How about the husband who pours time and money on his car? Screaming at his wife and children if they so much as scratch its glossy finish or spill something inside its pristine interior. How about the mother who sits at the mahjong table or in front of the TV watching telenovelas the whole day rather than sit with her child who needs help with homework? How about the family who would rather go shopping at the mall the whole Sunday rather than spend an hour at mass? How about the career-driven person who would put down a colleague just to get ahead in the corporate rat race? How about the mistress and her married lover who would destroy a family just to satisfy themselves? How about the employee who steals office supplies to save on his kids’ school supplies?
Know anyone like that? Then you know someone married to a wall.

First car
This reminds me how my husband was shaken by God to wake up and realize that a car is just a material thing that can be lost in a split seconds. When i first visited Saudi Arabia, my husband bought his first second hand car (brand new is too expensive). Since it was his first owned car, after coming from office, he spent more time cleaning it and making "kalikot" until late night. He even planned to put more gadgets to the car. I have reminded him of this gesture of being attached too much to his car.
Until the big accident happened! His car was a total wrecked when it was bumped from behind by a speeding car. It was a miracle that he was pulled out from his car without any bruise or scratch in his body. Thank God, he was wearing seatbelt! The car was pulled to the junkyard and was not seen again.
Wailing wall
Any tips for those married to wailing walls?
Also the Western wall
For a while I thought the article was about the Wailing or Western Wall in Jerusalem :))
It was called the Wailing wall as some people who visited and prayed cry and wail for their prayer to be heard.
Western Wall Plaza
The Western Wall is the most holy place accessible to the Jewish people because of Muslim control of the Temple Mount. Known in recent centuries as the "Wailing Wall," this was built by Herod the Great as the retaining wall of the Temple Mount complex.
The temple mount, sacred to the muslims is significant as well to the crhistians as this was where Abraham was about to sacrifice Isaac, where Jesus built His temple. For the muslims, its where Mohammed met Allah.
Fall of the Wall
I guess the most concrete (pun intended) reminder of how foolish material attachments can be is to point them to what happened to the Berlin Wall. No matter how impregnable it seemed, it was destroyed eventually. So it's not wise to put things of the world above the things that are important: faith, family, integrity. Cars will rust, fame will pass, and mistresses will get wrinkled and flabby.
