Halo-halong Hālo: Prayer Petition Dos and Don’ts

TODAY'S TIDBIT: “I call on you, O God, for you will answer me; give ear to me and hear my prayer.” – Psalm 17:6

I was feeling sad because my best friend will be away for a few months. She left to work in another country. Sad, because I will miss having her around. Sadder still because the work she was going to was not something to be excited about. Although she did not like the life she was facing, she had been praying for it as a solution to her financial difficulties.

TODAY'S TIDBIT: “Then I would still have this consolation— my joy in unrelenting pain— that I had not denied the words of the Holy One.” – Job 6:10

Brother Paeng is one of the funniest men I have ever met. His sharings during community gatherings always give my abs a thorough work-out from laughing. The amazing thing about him is that his stories are not always about wonderful, funny events in his life but also about his trials.

TODAY'S TIDBIT:"God is with you in everything you do.” – Genesis 21:22

In this season of ghosts let me greet you in Christian lingo: Happy Hālo-ween!!!

I remember the movie “Ghost” with Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore. It was shown just a few months after my husband died. None of my friends and in-laws wanted to take me to watch it. They were afraid I might cause flooding in the theater.

Halo-halong Hālo: Married to a Wall

TODAY'S TIDBIT: “Because I love your commands more than gold, more than pure gold…” – Psalm 119:127

I found this funny entry in Ripley’s Believe It or Not: “Driven by love for the Berlin Wall, Eija-Riitta Berliner-Mauer of Sweden married it in 1979 and took its name as her surname.”
We may think it’s crazy that this woman loved the Berlin Wall so much that she married it. We may not do something so outlandish but are we any different in our love for material things?

Halo-halong Hālo: Mission Impossible? Not!

TODAY'S TIDBIT:
“He did not weaken in faith when he considered his own body as already dead for he was almost a hundred years old and the dead womb of Sarah. He did not doubt God’s promise in unbelief; rather, he was empowered by faith and gave glory to God and was fully convinced that what He had promised he was also able to do.” – Romans 4:19-21

TODAY'S TIDBIT:
“Do not disdain the discipline of the Lord or lose heart when reproved by him; for whom the Lord loves, he disciplines… all discipline seems a cause not for joy but for pain, yet later it brings the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who are trained by it.” – Hebrews 12:5-6, 11

TODAY'S TIDBIT:
“I call on you, O God, for you will answer me; give ear to me and hear my prayer.” - Psalm 17:6

In my business, I always need the cellphone to keep in touch with my clients and the airlines. So I have not one, but two, cellphones just to make sure I’m always accessible.

Halo-halong Hālo: Are you wearing the Badge?

TODAY'S TIDBIT:
“For every tree is known by its fruit.” – Luke 6:44

This story was shared by my classmate in grade school, Tina Caparros Abuel. It reminds us that we have to live our faith and not just speak it. It is a badge of honor that we wear every single moment of the day. Faith is not a bracelet you put in a box and take out for one hour every Sunday. Instead, it’s like a favorite perfume worn everyday whose scent surrounds you wherever you are.

Halo-halong Hālo: Fail Safe Decision-making Method

Submitted by ehmee on Wed, 09/10/2008 - 01:56.

TODAY'S TIDBIT:

Luke 6:12 says, “Jesus departed to the mountains to pray, and he spent the night in prayer to God.” This is what Jesus did before choosing his twelve disciples.

How do you make decisions during crucial moments? Do you decide by yourself because you believe you are doing the right thing? I’m afraid of making decisions. I might make a mistake which I would regret for the rest of my life. But when I joined our community, The Light of Jesus Community, (LOJC), this changed because I learned to pray for guidance.

Halo-halong Hālo: The Real Story of Creation (A Short Play)

Submitted by lella on Mon, 09/08/2008 - 18:31.

TODAY'S TIDBIT:

This was written as an exercise for my “Short Forms of Creative
Writing” course in UIC. Since Proudly Filipina is in its inception, I
thought it would be appropriate to share this piece about the story of
creation from a woman’s point of view.
